The rise and popularity of the podcasting industry have seen huge leaps and bounds in recent times. Where it was once seen as a hobby to pass the time and a speculative investment, to a world that now has grown to not only be incredibly lucrative but also podcast creators understand the intimate fan connection that audio brings, and the value of expanding their presence across different platforms to reach new audiences and diversity their revenue streams.
When most people think of the podcast world today, it’s almost impossible to not come across the name Alex Cooper, the queen of podcasts who rose to fame with her podcast “Call Her Daddy”, where she dives into deep topics, encourages female empowerment and discusses sex and relationships. She has a reported $60 million deal with Spotify and has had celebrity guests like Post Malone, Miley Cyrus, Hailey Bieber, and Christina Aguilera.
Alex Cooper does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon, not only with her internet-breaking podcast episodes, but she’s also just embarked on an even bigger venture that could be revolutionary in merging the relationship between Gen-Z-focused content creators that have had popularity on platforms like Tik-Tok, Instagram, and Youtube with the ever-growing world of podcast.
Cooper has now launched her new company The Unwell Network, which will work with creators to bring to life projects and content across a variety of mediums, focusing on topics like pop culture, beauty, fashion, and lifestyle. Cooper has said that “The Unwell Network will be the source everyone can go to for unique perspectives exploring what’s top of mind today for this generation”.
The first two talent signing that have been announced to be a part of the Unwell family are Alex Earle and Madeline Argy. Both are powerhouses in their community and have unique social media presence.
Social media’s It-girl, Alix Earle has very rapidly risen to popularity through her viral “get ready with me” beauty and fashion videos. With over 7.5 million followers across all her social media platforms, her content covers topics including exciting college social life at the University of Miami, and her mental health, acne, and cosmetic surgery journey. Earle’s easygoing and relatable personality has created a phenomenon known as the “Alix Earle Effect” where her followers will rush to buy out any beauty product she features, making her the ultimate figure for brands like Drunk Elephant, Rare Beauty and L’Oreal to partner with.
Under the Unwell banner, Earle recently launched her podcast “Hot Mess”, where she updates her fans about her life in a longer form format compared to her content on TikTok. Since then, she has recently jumped to the top of the Spotify charts and earned a spot on Forbes Top Creators list.
Born in Sussex, England, Madeline Argy has been increasingly popular over the UK scene, and now with her being an addition to Unwell, her presence will keep expanding across the world. A creator who can keep an audience engaged for hours with her captivating storytelling, Argy shares long-form content, initially on Youtube, with her “brutally honest life stories and conversational anecdotes”, commenting on topics such as sexuality, relationships, self-respect, friendships, and mental health. She has identified herself as queer and speaks candidly about the misconceptions around her sexuality, where she admits to being a feminist in a misogynistic culture.
Similarly to Alix Earle, Argy is launching her new podcast called “Pretty Lonesome”, debuting under the Unwell brand. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she states that she is looking forward to building more of a connection with the people who watch her content. She reflects on TikTok being more humorous and quick-fire rather than a platform to speak about deeper and personal topics
